Ready to step up your Pinterest marketing game?
Pinterest is perfect for designers, event planners, wedding photographers, and more because Pinterest is where people get a lot of their inspiration. Here are my top tips to clean up your Pinterest account.
Tip #1 Convert to a Business Account
Most people use Pinterest as consumers, but you need a business account to get analytics, rich pins, and to claim your website. Here’s how to do it.
- Log in to your personal account
- Click the down chevron in the top right corner
- Click Settings
- Click Account management on the left
- Find Convert to a business account and click Convert account
- Fill out the fields to build your profile and click Next
- Fill out the fields to describe your business and click Next
- Select if you want to run ads and click Next
- Select where you’d like to start or click the x icon to go to your converted account
Tip #2 Keyword Vault
This is our favorite part!
The goal here is to create a Google doc with 20-50 keywords. And remember that you want to do this at least once a quarter or even monthly to track trendy keywords.
You can start by brainstorming keywords you would search for your specialization.
Then you can use a tool like “Keyword Search” to identify keywords that aren’t super popular so that you can use them and rank your pins.
(** You can also find keywords with the Pinterest Search Bar, Pinterest Ads Manager, and Pinterest Trends Tool)
Although you might not think this is important it is crucial because you will be using these keywords in your profile.
Keywords should be placed on:
- Boards
- Board descriptions
- Bio
- Display name
- Pin descriptions
- Pin titles
- Text overlay
Tip #3 Account Set Up
This is where step 1 and 2 comes in.
Here’s what to do:
- Claim your website
- Add display name with keyword
- Upload your profile photo and make sure your username is the same as your website
- Create cover photo
- Set up your boards with relevant keywords – Keep all boards secret until you are ready to pin to them, you don’t want any empty boards!
- Use keywords in the board description “on this board you’ll find…keyword, keyword, keyword, keyword etc.”
- Optional: Create board covers for each board. You will upload these like a Pin and set them as the board cover. Tip: link these “pins” back to the board itself. You may also choose a pin from the board as the board cover if you prefer that look.
Tip #4 Start creating pins
Create 10-12 templates in Canva that you will use for all of your pins (this will save you so much time!)
Pinterest prefers “Fresh Pins” which means a brand new image it’s never seen before (bonus
if it’s also linking to a new URL). Avoid over-used stock photos or repinning the same pin
over and over again. Create new! We like to create new pins for blog posts that were posted 3 months ago, so always have new pins.
